A Sefer Torah that is full of ‘Chesed Shel Emes’

Perpetuate their memory with a Sefer Torah

One of the most important projects that we have taken on ourselves in “Shomea Tefilla” is to write a Sefer Torah for the upliftment of the souls of all those pure and holy souls. And since the mitzvah of writing a Sefer Torah is for every Jewish man like it says: “ועתה כתבו לכם את השירה הזאת…” (דברים ל”א י”ט), and this is how the Rambam ruled in hilchot tefillin, mezuzah, and Sefer Torah (פ”ז ה”א), adding that even those who have a part in a Sefer Torah is as if they wrote the whole thing.

And as is also well known, the virtues of writing a Sefer Torah are enormous, and all Jews are brothers, therefore, under the instruction and direction of the Rabbi’s of ‘Shomea Tefilla’, it was decided to share with all Jewish people and give each and every one the opportunity to be a part of this special project, and to be a true partner in this special Sefer Torah that is all Chesed Shel Emes.

Participating in the writing of a Sefer Torah is as mentioned a well-known and guaranteed virtue for many important matters, as stated in the holy books, so much so that it seems that there is nothing else whose blessing is so great and capable of so many things as writing a Sefer Torah and participating in the writing of a Sefer Torah.

Virtue for richness

In the Talmud Yerushalmi it is stated that participation in the writing of a Sefer Torah is a virtue for the richness.

A virtue to be secured

Chazal said: “if someone wants his assets to last – he should buy a Sefer Torah” (מס’ עירובין).

A virtue for wisdom

In the Chinuch it is stated that by writing the Sefer Torah he and his sons gain wisdom and he will never forget the Torah.

Virtue for boys and to be saved from צער גידול בנים

The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Plaji writes in his book “ברכת מועדיך לחיים”: I heard from my grandfather zt’l, the בעל החקרי לב that there were people who didn’t have children and by making the mitzvah of writing a Sefer Torah they were blessed with sons and daughters. This promise, that participation in the writing of a Sefer Torah is a virtue for children and a virtue to be saved from צער גידול בנים, is also written in “Sha’ar Bat Rabim” by Rabbi Chaim Aryeh Leib of Midovna named “Shira Chadasha”.

A virtue for longevity

In the book “Yesod VeShoresh HaAvodah” it is stated that if someone is writing a Sefer Torah receives longevity.

Virtue to cancel bad decrees

In the book “Yalkut Yosef” he brings that if a Sefer Torah is written, then bad decrees will be annulled.

virtue to stop an epidemic

In the book ‘Ketar Shem Tov’, there is a story that in the year 1751 many people in Mazibuz fell ill with various diseases, and some of them were dying. And they came to the Baal Shem Tov and wept bitterly for the sick people, and begged him to increase in prayer for them.

And the Baal Shem Tov replied that he cannot help them with this. Only they themselves can save the sick people, weaken or even cancel the evil of the decree, because in the Shemoneh Esreh we pray “ותהי לרצון תמיד עבודת ישראל עמך” and the interpretation: always the work of Israel makes you want to weaken the decree and nullify it, and the work of Israel that always stands before God is the Torah letters, which are in two ways: saying letters of the Torah and the Tehillim, and writing a Sefer Torah in which everyone will participate.

At the moment they unanimously decided to write a Sefer Torah, and everyone pledged to participate in writing it, the Baal Shem Tov told his writer Rabbi Zvi that he should write two sheets and immediately the sick began to be healed, the Sefer Torah was called “די מופת ספר תורה”.
