The mitzvah of charity is very great and there are no words to describe the power of its virtues and powers, it can even save a person from death that surrounds him, like it says ‘צדקה תציל ממוות’ (charity saves from death) no less than that!
Our holy Rabbis revealed to us a high and special level in the mitzvah of charity, which is giving charity to poor people in Eretz Israel.
In the Likutei Etzot it is stated as follows: וְעַל־יְדֵי צְדָקָה דְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל תִּכְלֹל עַצְמְךָ בַּאֲוִירָא דְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל, שֶׁהוּא בְּחִינַת הֶבֶל הַקָּדוֹשׁ שֶׁאֵין בּוֹ חֵטְא, שֶׁעַל־יְדֵי זֶה עִקַּר בִּטּוּל הַדִּין וְהַחֹשֶׁךְ וְהַשִּׁכְחָה וְהַסִּכְלוּת וְכוּ’ מִן הָעוֹלָם!
These are powerful words that testify to us, even a little, about the power of this charity and its rare virtue. One of the ways to commemorate and act to uplift the soul of a deceased person is to give charity, and even more so charity of Eretz Israel.
